On this day, at this very moment, 91 years ago, WWI came to an end.
It is the day that we commemorate those who fought in war.

It is a day to remember all those who experienced the horrors that many of us will never know. The terrifying sound of the trumpets of Jericho. The bombing and seizure of towns and cities.
Many of us should be thankful to have never seen war on our homefront.

I will be brief, because being heartfelt is never my thing, but it is important never to lose sight of the past, because to do so is to jeopardise the future.

One last video for solidarity. I have one other to post on ANZAC Day, but that's not for a while.

Well, the 36th anniversary of the military coup in Chile has come and gone, but more horrific news has sprung up.

Margaret Thatcher is revealed to have, along with almost all of Europe, been against German reunification, since 'you remember who started the two world wars'. This infomation has only come to light due to concealed Politburo documents being found by a reporter and copied. Shameful.

Secondly, a reporter who was being held in Afghanistan has been returned home after the government of a Western country (not sure whether it was US or UK) staged a military intervention allowing for the deaths of civilian Afghanis and the reporter's interpreter in order for the detained to make his escape.

UN condemns NT Intervention

What's this? A new post from me? Yeah, that's right. I'm usually too lazy to actually write posts, despite having a fucklot of stuff to write about.

If you're not in Australia, and even if you are in Australia, you probably don't know about the NT intervention. I'll start with the very basic background information, then.

Here's a handy map of all the states of Australia. There's six, plus the Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory, which aren't technically part of Australia apparently. Now the thing about the NT is few people know what the fuck happens there, if anything. It's generally considered full of rednecks and desert, although Uluru is there, so that counts for something.

The Stolen Generation
Now I have mentioned this before, but the Stolen Generation isn't exactly require knowledge outside of Australia.
As little as thirty years ago, thousands of Aboriginal and mixed-race (the derogatory term 'half-caste' was also used, although admittedly few know that it's derogatory, sort of like 'jap') children were forcibly removed from their parents and sent to live on missions or with white families. Many were physically and sexually abused. The case of Aboriginal rights activist Rob Riley, who committed suicide early this decade, is one of the most public cases in this otherwise oft-forgotten period. Why were the children removed? The Aboriginal Act of 1905 created many racist laws in order to rob the Aborigines of their rights, believing them unable to care for their own children, have a job or own any property.

So what does all of this have to do with anything nowadays?
Although KRudd publically apologised to the Stolen Generation a few years ago, they have still not recieved compensation, and it was merely a coverup to make him look good while the racist attacks on Aborigines continue.
A few years ago, government forces entered the Northern Territory on the pretext of battling child abuse, alcohol abuse and building houses. Despite the facts that there is no evidence of an outbreak of child abuse in the region, and no houses have been built since. In order to make this intervention legal, the Australian Parliament suspended the Racial Discrimination Act. So what's the purpose of this intervention, apart from driving out the Aborigines? To clear land and space for mining companies and other big business subsidiaries.

Come on Australia, we know you're racist, capitalist assholes, but this is too obvious...

It’s been 12 hours since my request for information. All hell is breaking loose down here, I need a reply. I have enough problems without you pulling some kind of a stunt. I only hope that there’s a world left for you to return to. Report to ground as to what is going on and make that report immediately!
Based on the incredibly awesome holy tome that is Arthur C. Clarke's 2010: Odyssey Two, I never expected this film, which isn't directed by Stanley Kubrick, to match up to its fantastic greatness. Words cannot describe the great beauty that is the book, but words can easily describe this film.
Firstly, everyone knows I have a raging hard-on for the Space Odyssey series. Ever since I saw the first film and read the second book, it's quickly risen to the top of my best SF list. The film of 2010 tries hard to match the epic of the book, and it can be congratulated for that. It falls flat (OF COURSE) but is still not a bad watch.

The book of 2010 had a lot of scenes which required some interesting effects, especially the ending scene where Jupiter explodes and becomes the second Sun, Lucifer. Where Kubrick needed little computer imagery for his masterpiece, whoever directed this film had to use some. This film was made about 40 years after the 2001 film, but its computer effects are lacklustre and glaringly obvious, especially to a 21st-century audience. Thankfully, it's not too bad until the final scene, which is pretty lulzy in regards to how Jupiter's rendered. As this film was made in the 80s, this is understandable, but still awkward.

Computer effects aside, the film's not that accurate. It would have been much better to keep in the Tsien scenes instead of removing them altogether, as it is relevant to the plot and would be much better than the weird shit they put in involving no alien seaweed whatsoever. There're some nice homages to the first film in regards to some shots and the soundtrack, which isn't so bad considering it's not classical. Dr Chandra is also American, which is annoying. No Translation Convention, however, which gets a nod of approval from me: the Russian is clearly painstakingly researched.
The Anvilicious Cold War theme is annoying, and although it does create some interesting plot points and WAFF, it shouldn't be there. Stop sticking your 1980s political themes into my twenty-first century alternate future. Besides, the Cold War is over in Space Odyssey-verse.
Nonetheless, a respectable adaptation of a difficult film to adapt, and worth watching, although don't expect another 2001.

Gattaca
For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home.
A few years ago, I attended a lecture at a university which discussed themes [I don't remember which] in a few films, primarily Gattaca, of which I had never heard of at the time. Just recently I was able to watch the film, and I must say it is very good.
The underlying theme, to be wary of becoming over-obsessed with genetics and cloning, is very anvilicious, but can be forgiven.
The film revolves around some guy, who always wanted to be an astronaut, but is a 'godchild', someone who was concieved naturally, as opposed to the genetically created babies of the future. This means that not only is his body not fit for the job, but he has several conditions which make him unfit for anything in the elitist world: a 99% chance of developing a heart condition, and myopia (short-sightedness). He's an invalid, meaning that the only job suitable for him is cleaning. Discrimination is, of course, illegal...but nobody cares about that.
Determined, he assumes the identity of another guy in a wheelchair, who is genetically perfect, and frequently borrows samples of blood, urine and other stuff from him in order to pass the routine physicals. It's good. Jude Law steals the show as Guy in a Wheelchair.

Valkyrie
Do you know how this war will end, lieutenant? The portrait will be unhung, and the man will be hung.
I did not expect much from this film. That's probably why I liked it. Oh, also yummy guys in nazi uniforms. Terence Stamp is awesome as always.
Everyone knows what this is about, so I'll cut to the chase. It was good. Anvilicious, but good. Most of the actors being British, I didn't like, but it turned out well.
Except for the actors playing the Big Four: Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels and Göring (Heß, for some reason, was not in this movie), who looked nothing like the people they were supposed to be imitating, except for Himmler. The only reason I could tell that they were them was that Goebbels was thin and wearing an SA uniform, Göring was fat, and Hitler had the toothbrush moustache. They should have made it a foreign film...
I had to live with my granny, who was confused throughout the entire thing and asked I'm Confused Are These People Germans and SS Stands For Secret Service Doesn't It, and my grandpa, who is a massive conservative/wannabe WWII nut ("Yes, SS stands for Secret Service" [it doesn't]) and thoroughly approved of goddamn everything in this film especially the part about killing Hitler, while watching this movie. So the suspension of disbelief was not there, and I could silently nitpick everything.
This film tries to make an action movie about something that is not action. This was annoying. However, the film wasn't bad, and although bits of it were irritating, I still don't see why everyone hates Tom Cruise. But that's probably only because I've seen about 3 films with him in it, and I liked all of them.
If you want to see hot guys in nazi uniforms, watch this film. Terence Stamp is awesome.
If you want to see a historically-accurate romp through Operation Walküre, watch the other movie, Operation Valkyrie, which came before it.

Idiot of the Whenever: Quad

Folks, I have not one but two installments of Idiot of the Whenever from Smackjeeves.
To be more specific, users from the Smack Jeeves Awards, an impromptu 'awards ceremony' thrown together by one idiotic spriter [more about her later, she will have her own post] in order to give out shitty little pictures of trophies to whosoever is deemed worthiest of it every month for each category.
The problem is that most of the people on the SmackJeeves Awards are spriters. Most of the spriters on Smack Jeeves are...noobs. The results are often that people get awards which they don't deserve, as it could have gone to someone much better.
On the first of July, the greatest controversy of the comic's (short) history occurred, as the aforementioned happened, and...

If you flip through the archives, you'll see that there were much better entries than this. We pointed this out, and wondered why he had won because I sure hadn't voted for him...
Each month 4-5 judges are picked, who must give a score out of five to each entry. Then Wave adds her score onto this (but we didn't know this at the time, and nobody knows how many points Wave's score is worth). A quick discussion between the judges revealed that nobody gave Quad a very good rating at all, and so we rallied together to put Wave on the spot.
Quad, for some reason, took this as a personal insult, and began flaming for no reason whatsoever, with Wave defending him. Full drama in the thread linked.

Some time later, someone (probably RaveDuck) posted a hilarious fake entry which was deleted.

Wave posted this in response. Now the members of SJ Summer Awards, who Wave called out, got pissy for her calling them 'copies' when they were around first and are much better at their job.
Quad pulled out the 'you guys flamed me' card, when as aforementioned, we didn't. A shorter flame war ensued, and Wave jumped in, saying we were 'ganging up on Quad'...I had already stopped the fighting half a day earlier. I'm pretty sure that neither Wave nor Quad can read, and she just responds to complaints from him.
Quad eventually said he was 'having a bad day', and apologised noobishly. He was somehow forgiven by Roby, but my hate was not abated.

And now today, another flame war has cropped up, in regards to this. Once again, Quad does something stupid, we reason with him, he starts yelling, Wave defends him. But if you read the thread, you'll see things get stupider. Wave has no ability to reason. But that will be seen later.

I dislike Judaism, and by extension, the people who follow that religion.
There! I said it.

I've had bad experiences with them. They're opinionated and make up ridiculous excuses for completely ignoring facts and reason. And they also only help out their own kind.
Guess that makes me an anti-Semite. It doesn't, however, make any of my arguments any less valid. I may be a hateful hypocrite, and I may be biased, but everything I say here is 100% truth. I don't fabricate statistics or make shit up so that I can add fuel to the fire of arguments based on falsehood. So don't assume that because I don't like Jews, that makes everything I say wrong. Like Christians, they're not all bad, but the bad ones are everywhere. At least I'm no longer a racial supremacist. That clear? Good? Good.

That said, let's continue to today's rant.

Why am I even bothering with this, everyone here against the video games forum either has no interest left in BIONCILE or never had it in the first place, or doesnt even plan to be on the new site anyway, and somone who has all the right to at least have an opinion is being trolled and having his reasons thrown out?

Why cant I change my mind and try keeping another of my hobies on the site that I think can be safly done without ruining the site? I cant even have it up there and remove it later if it doesnt work out because you reject my own valid opinions? FINE, Im done, Im tired of this.

And now for the picture that I'm sure a few people wanted, but that nobody was willing to ask for.
Oh, this image is a little bit misleading, it should be something like 'political/religious alignment/time', and some of the fields appear larger than they are, but I'll get around to fixing it some time.
I guess this requires some explaining.

Yes, for most of my life I have been a conservative/militant Christian, aka a 'Christfag'. Although both my parents are Christian, they are fairly lax, so I have my grandparents to blame for my indoctrination in that regard. It was only upon coming into high school that I was finally snapped out of that phase. At first, learning about new religions in the light of an unbiased viewpoint meant that I could appreciate different belief systems for the first time in my life. However, as time went on, I began to hate Christianity, not only for the horrors enacted in its name over history, but for what it had turned me into during my younger years. I eventually retreated into a misanthropic state, with a dash of pangloboantiestablishmentarianism, although that only really came about proper in my militant phase. I studied occult/alternative religion for a while, but never followed it that seriously. The militant atheist phase was the beginning of my descent into complete hate. Pangloboantiestablishmentarianism [the belief in the disestablishment of all state religions] set in around this point, although as the graph shows I was fairly centre-right around this time. Although I hated religion, I wasn't going to call people out about it, or cut off communication with them for their beliefs. I never really talked about my views to anyone, though. My militant side was quite a big secret.
After a while this evolved into mild national socialism, influenced by people I ran into while browsing on DeviantArt. Yes, I was a non-racist Nazi. This is entirely possible and probably one of the most interesting parts of my political history. There is no real category or name for what I was at this time, because it is impossible for anyone to truly be a 'Nazi' in these times, and I could not call myself a neo-Nazi as this was a completely different [and utterly retarded] system. I went by the original belief system of the NSDAP, and tried to tone down as much as possible the undesirable aspects which were often capitalised on by the neos [which of course the NSDAP did not do]. I had a brief foray into neo-Nazism before realising that it was stupid and returned back to mild National Socialism. Oh, and I was still atheist all this time, in case you were wondering.
After a while, I realised that what I had originally set out to do had degraded into calling myself a Nazi without really doing anything about it [except liking swastikas a lot]. Dismayed, I decided that I wasn't really a Nazi at all, and went back to being centrist. I still, however, really fucking like Nazi uniforms/symbolism. It's a pretty common thing actually.

Incidentally, my hating Judaism is not a result of my nazi history at all. In fact, it's completely independent of it, and I never really hated [or knew much about] it until quite recently.

This year I went to university and approached/was approached by the socialist club. Having been mostly ignorant of politics throughout my entire life, I discovered I was left-wing all along [well, ever since the end of the NS era] and became officially socialist. I'm going to a rally tomorrow, actually.
That is the story of my political/religious history. Now stop calling me a Nazi and give me all your pictures of hot guys in uniforms.

Doomsday's Holocaust Rant, 2009

Two days ago was Hitler's 120th birthday. It's surprising that people still commemorate the birthday of one who has been dead at least 50 years. But then again, people still celebrate Christmas, despite everybody knowing that's not the actual birthdate.
But what's quite ironic is that the day after, April 21st, is (apparently) the date Auschwitz was liberated, and so has now become Holocaust Rememberance Day, or Yom HaShoah.
Now, everybody knows I have been very vocal about these issues in the past [on certain forums: mostly 4chan, since I haven't really talked about it in other places where it could be misinterpreted and I could lose a lot of respect], and since it's a very touchy topic, I haven't actually blogged about it yet. So here's THIS year's Holocaust rant, and this time, I'm not holding back. I expect to lose about 50% of my readership [which is about 2 people] and if I end up posting this on YouTube, I expect to lose about 50% of my subscribers [about 50 people], and get about five more nazis subscribing to me even though they clearly misinterpreted my videos. People are going to call me racist and/or a nazi, which usually happens anyway even when these things aren't mentioned.

Now, I'm not saying the Holocaust didn't happen. I respect that it did.
What I AM saying, is that there are a lot of misconceptions which have gone into the public lexicon. There are a lot of things which people tend to forget or things which were made up which are often brought up in conversation. And to question these 'facts', many of which have dubious or no evidence apart from oral description [did I mention the Nazis were VERY organised and have written reports of pretty much everything] is to be a Holocaust denier, a racist, a neo-Nazi.

First of all, I'm going to talk about the unfair glorification of and favouritism towards Jews. There. I said it. The Jews get too much credit. It seems that we're not allowed to say anything bad about Israel or the Jews because of the Holocaust. Why else do you think everyone supported Israel's merciless genocide of the Palestinians, year after year, and turn a blind eye to their war crimes, including the bombing of civilian towns and schools, and the use of white phosphorous, a substance forbidden by the United Nations?

But hey, I'm not here to talk about Israel, because that's another topic.

What can you discern here?
First of all, it's notable that this specifically states that Holocaust Rememberance Day, as a holiday, is ONLY for the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. What about everyone else? What about the homosexuals [incidentally nobody was interred in a KZ just for bieng a homosexual. There had to be a combination of things, such as a homosexual communist or dissenter. Ernst Röhm, head of the SA, was well known to be homosexual, although it was a lifestyle not seen as favourable by the majority of the NS creed], gypsies, Catholics, communists? There were only about four million Jews in Western Europe at the time anyway [edit: this statistic is questionable, I got it from a revisionist website. It depends on what you count as 'Western Europe'. The Wansee Conference of 1942 had the Nazis estimate a total of 11,000,000 jews in all of Europe [east and west] at the time. If you want to see the statistics, the list is here, and the English translation is here. Decide for yourself, but it is definitely not six million in West Europe alone.]. Oh, you say, they could have imported from Eastern Europe. But they didn't, because Stalin put them in his gulags, which killed some twenty million people. Who do you know that can recite that statistic from rote? Who do you know that even KNOWS about Stalin's gulags? Well, that's because after the war, since the USSR helped defeat the Nazis, the UK became friends with Russia. You weren't supposed to say anything bad about them. Speaking out against their crimes was suppressed and covered up. George Orwell couldn't publish Animal Farm for some thirty years due to this, since it was considered to be offensive and critical of the Soviets.
And why the Holocaust? Sure, millions of people died, but there have been WORSE. Why don't we have a universal genocide rememberance day, instead of just one for the Holocaust?
What about the victims of Japanese human experimentation? It was going on around the same time. Their crimes were MORE horrific than those of Mengele and his cohorts. Nobody cared because after all, Japan was the US's job. And they were doing this in China, and nobody cared about China. The Japanese sold their 'results' to the US, were let off scot-free, and resumed medical jobs in Japan. Who remembers that? No, everyone talks about Mengele. And may I mention that making people into lampshades is an urban myth. It didn't happen. It was fabricated.

What about the Armenian Genocide?

Between 2001 and 2007, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) expressed its unwillingness to attend the ceremony. The MCB instead called for a more inclusive day proposing the commemoration of deaths in Palestine, Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia, along with the Holocaust. [...] The latter policy has been generally referred to as a boycott, although the MCB leadership has objected to the use of that term. In 2005, Iqbal Sacranie suggested that the deaths of Palestianians should also be remembered.^[2] The MCB policy of withholding participation was condemned variously by Labour MP Louise Ellman [...]
The event also drew similar criticism from the United Kingdom's Armenian community in 2000 which complained that the event remained exclusively for commemorating those who perished in the Holocaust, ignoring the critical aspects of the Armenian Genocide put into action by the Ottoman Empire in 1915. Neil Frater, an official of Tony Blair's "Race Equality Unit", a branch of the Home Office replied that it had consulted the "Holocaust Memorial Day Steering Group" on the issue and agreed that while it understood that the Armenian Genocide was an "appalling tragedy", it wanted to "avoid the risk of the message becoming too diluted if we try to include too much history."^[7]^[8] Frater went on to say that it had gone on with the Steering Group's advice to reject the Genocide, along with the Crusades, colonialism and the Boer War. Frater's comments were met with more widespread criticism, including the principal of the Armenian Evangelical College in Beirut, Lebanon, Zaven Messerlian who stated that "any serious commemoration must include the aetiology of genocide, particularly those of the twentieth century, especially if one encouraged the next."^[7] The UK based organization Refugee Council also supported this position since the event was supposed to include "all victims of genocide."^[9]

Speaking of resistance, the French Resistance also gets too much credit. They made up a VERY small amount of the French population. Most of the French were collaborators! In the end, what did they achieve? Rescue a few crashed British airmen?
What about the White Rose? They were far braver and more active than the French Resistance! AND they were in the thick of it, in Germany, handing out anti-Nazi leaflets, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET

And don't get me started on the Nuremberg Trials. The entire thing was a sham. Everyone on trial had no idea of the extent to which prisoners were mistreated in the KZs, or were even aware there were KZs. They were totally unaware of it. Despite prosecutors taking an oath that nothing was falsified, at least an hour of footage in a single tape was edited. And what do these poor people get for it? They're executed. For following orders in a regime they didn't know was wrong. What would you have done, go back to the Weimar Republic days when your money is so useless it's better to burn it in the street to keep warm? The prisoners were prettied up for the cameras. Given suits and the like, which were taken away after they were put back into their cells.

Anyway, that's my rant. It's not complete, but that's all I can bother to say at the moment.

Why is it considered fine to completely domesticate a species [mainly talking about dogs here], make it a slave to its human captors, and have it admonished for showing the most minimal of animal behaviour [barking, sniffing, humping etc.) or even put down for defending itself? Why are certain breeds considered more 'dangerous' than others despite all animals of the same species having the same primal instincts? Why are dingoes considered more dangerous than dogs and shot on sight, despite there having been only 3 dingo attacks on humans in history, and thousands of dog attacks per year? After all, dingoes are just wild dogs.
I'm not a PETA supporter. I don't mind eating meat, after all, we have canines [you know, those pointy teeth for chewing meat] for a reason. And we do TRY to keep it humane. I just find this whole thing about animal conformity completely fucking ridiculous. Bears are just like any other animal: ordinary until you provoke or scare them. It's not the bear's fault that it's big and strong enough to kill a human in one blow, much like it's not our fault that we're big enough to accidentally kill thousands of ants on any walk through the bush.

into the new age of freedom and prosperity for this much-maligned patch of desert out in the south. Of course, his contradictory 'fixes' are beginning to show that he may even be worse than whatever Howard had to throw at us.

Firstly, and I may or may not have mentioned this before, Rudd, as with any leader of a capitalist nation, has his tongue firmly wrapped around the throbbing cock of the industry, which fucks over those of us on the bottom in order to bring much-undeserved pleasure to itself and its bastard cohorts. While lamenting that Australia will be unable to meet the rest of the world's carbon emission reduction targets, he spends $16 billion (that's Australian dollars, so about 32 bil. pound) on submarines to terrorise the tiny Pacific islands about Oceania [incidentally, Australia has a long history of oppressing everyone in order to try to remain 'top dog' in the Southern hemisphere]. Meanwhile, he's unveiled a plan for a nation-wide broadband system which should 'increase the internet speed by 100%'. Like we need it. Incidentally, that $900 benefit to students only goes to those on youth allowance. Rudd's well known for his draconian prerequisites for youth allowance. As an example, I'm not elegible because my dad earns $2000 more than Rudd says is enough. Many others at this university (which is actually the most prestigious in the state) suffer likewise.

I could go on about the faults of capitalism. But I'd also like to bring up an issue which was recently quite in the spotlight but has now once again faded into obscurity: The war in Gaza. Now I don't really have the time [read: effort] at the moment to write about this topic, as another one has just cropped up and this post is late as it is, so I'll post this for now and make another post about the 2009 Gaza conflict/oppression of Palestinians soon enough.

The Emirates: Sunshine, desert and plenty of camels

Well here's my belated post about one tiny little country on the tip of the Arabian peninsula. Zemanta's being a bit of a bitch and isn't showing me any pictures as yet, so I have to get my picture from WIKIPEDIA.
So, that's the UAE. Wow. I thought it was that tiny thing right next to it.
So the United Arab Emirates is made up of five (or seven, I can never remember) emirates, which are essentially states controlled by different members of the royal family, called sheiks. The word 'emirate' comes from 'emir', which I don't remember what it means but it sounds cool. The biggest emirate is Abu Dhabi, the capital, which makes up about 85% of the country. We also visited the emirates of Al Ain and Dubai.

The flights to and from Dubai Airport were really great - we went with Emirates and they're all really nice. They have adjustable flatscreens in the back of the seats with software in it so you can watch whatever you want: episodes of TV series, movies, and even listen to a little music. I watched WALL-E again and listened to Metallica and Kraftwerk. I also thoroughly enjoyed the documentaries available. There are cameras in the tail, head and bottom of the airbus so you can view what's going on while listening to music. Watching yourself take off from an airport while blaring Enter Sandman is an amazing experience. We also got a fantastic view on the way out - we got to see the World Islands and the Palm Jumeira; although we missed the photo opportunity we got some great shots of other things. The first couple of days there we took about a hundred photos a day. No, really.
The first night after landing I didn't really do anything but sleep, jet lag I guess. The airport was magnificent though, there was a lot of very interesting architecture including a black waterfall. We drove the 2-3 hours from Dubai to Al Ain, where my mum's friend we were staying with lives. Her house is huge. Her husband trains the royal family's military, so he's filthy rich.
Al Ain is really interesting. It's a bit hard to remember you're in the desert except for all the palm trees. On the way there, there was a petrol station in the middle of the desert. Petrol station one side, the rest, all sand for kilometres...no, really...

On our first day in Al Ain we visited the Al Ain Zoo, which was really something. In our opinion it was much better than the Perth Zoo, and had some amazing animals you won't see anywhere else: the ever-cute jerboa and at least ten species of oryx, one of which is extinct in the wild. (missed the penguins though.)
We then went to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the Emirates. It was quite the mix between modern skyscrapers and traditional houses. We first went to see the Grand Mosque, which was magnificent, followed by a mall filled with designer label clothes. They even had Faberge eggs. We ate KFC there, which was actually made fresh and not like the junk we have. I cannot stress how fucking awesome this KFC is.
We then visited the Emirates Palace Hotel, which is apparentl 7-star, and really fucking fancy. Gold was everywhere...even in the toilets. No, really.
The next day we went to Jebel Hafeet, which is a mountain in Al Ain with fantastic views, and a hotel on top which is interesting. They even have a water park up there. Picture that. A water park. On top of a fucking mountain. In the middle of the fucking desert. In our last day in Dubai we took a bus tour around and had dinner at Planet Hollywood.
And that was about all I remember. Derp.

I'm uploading all my photos onto the 'Bucket (Flickr has draconian monthly limits) very, very slowly.
So far only Al Ain subfolder has stuff in it, and don't forget to check the Al Ain Zoo subfolder.

This is an old conversation that took place on New MoD, the vigilantes' offshoot of MoD for trollan and bitchan. I'm an admin there now.

A shitstorm I feel it does not deserve, and is probably already happening.
Third, concerning the rule against joke links- It is too stringent. There are scary things that can be joke-linked to, and compared to them, RickRoll/DuckRoll/ZOMBIE ATTACKED are like a three-year old leaving a worm in your sandwich compared to young insane adults on MTV performing an insane prank that causes massive damage and anal burns to the victim and gives much lulz to everyone in the vicinity (which is then imitated by thirteen-year-old boys who end up giving themselves massive anal burns, causing their parents to sue MTV and make them shift the timeslot of the young insane adults involved in the original to an inconvenient time which causes much anti-lulz to those who were amused by the original prank). To mention those scary things by name- Pain Series, Tubgirl, Goatse, LemonParty, and so on and so forth.
Fourth, Those comics I sent you... you know that member "Kokua"? Well I sent those to her earlier, and she LOVED them.
Fifth, If members are going to get pissy that someone made humour of them- well, that's too bad! They set themselves up to be made humour of anyway. Think about it.

EMAIL FUN WITH FAGGOTRON

One last thing, I realized I forgot to talk about Deimos who you mentioned. Between Explorer and Deimos they had been going back and fourth with eachother, and I think what happened was that I first delt with Exporer who was reported as harrassing a member, who was Deimos. I looked at the urls provided by the member who reported them, and saw Explorer as being the agressor. It wasnt until after I talked to and removed Explorers access that I received complaints about Deimos, in which he had also been causing trouble. I started searching through his posts and found that he also had had his fare share of trolling. I had been about to ban him but I found that the members took it on themselves to make a topic and talk to him for what he had said, and worked things out with him. Rather than ban him and negotiate being invited back to the forums like with you and Explorer, I honored his word in the topic where the members talked to him and gave him a warning. I remember propaganda minister, we may have been able to get along better if we had gotten off on the right foot. In protest to how I was running things she called me Nazitron, I PMed her about it, asking how I was supposed to take the apparent insult, if it was more of a nickname or actualy intended to insult me, rather than just ban her on the spot for it. She expressed her dislikings for how I was running things in a reasonable manner in her responses, and I heard her out. I wasnt willing or able to do some of what she wanted, I did seriously connsider some of her points and suggestions though. I got complaints about her Nazi images, so I removed them and PMed her to let her know I removed them for the complaints. She responded by grabbing a helper and using him to help her cover the forums with oversized Nazi images and hate-phrases. It took Tasaraki roughly ten minutes to clean up the mess, where he eventualy discovered a "delete all posts/topics by member in the past (insert number)days". At this time Im unwilling to knowingly let her or her helper back in, one because the fact she did this after I heard her out felt like a slap in the face, and will take time for me to get over, second becasue I pretty much run things the same way as when she was removed, and I feel like it would be inviting her back into the same circumstances that she found uncomfortable in the first place and would further complicate things. As Nate had wisely put it, Moderation on the forums has lagged behind to the point that when anyone tried to moderate that it cased trouble of one kind or another. I promise Ill do my best to moderate fairly for everyone, with stuff like this happening my best intentions are often misunderstood or cause other complications. If you see instances of my lack of speed and ability to moderate fairly to you and other members I ask for your patience with me and your help to notify me of these instances.

Furthermore I find it incredibly hypocritical how you allow[ed] the use of 'violence ... and gore ... that may be equivalent to a rated R movie, or rated M(ature) video games' when you also explicitly forbid 'post[ing of] explicit or even suggestive material of certain acts' for fear that the automated ads might pick up on them (assuming that people actually click on them, which I assure you they do not). I believe those who are viewing the material are mature enough for suggestive things, especially since we're talking about gore here. I understand the restriction on pr0nz, but suggestive things are fairly tame. Especially compared to gore. I guess it just shows the US' unjustified hatred of nudity and such as opposed to graphic violence.

I don't miss the place as it was indeed not very active, but I would simply like a better explanation for your reasoning, as it is not a very good argument and indeed seems to be contradictory in several places.

The 'dox' mentioned are documents Aegis linked a number of people with proof that Swert had needlessly censored and removed some topics. And then of course he called it 'warez' and tried to pin it on us.

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968)
"Dave, stop. Stop, will you? Stop, Dave. Will you stop, Dave? Stop, Dave. I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid."
This is one of those films you never forget...if you sat through it all. People will find this film boring, but I really liked it. (incidentally, I keep finding the poster a giant double entendre, goddamn it) The cinematic techniques used by Kubrick in one of the most famous of his films are extraordinary and were really ahead of its time. To this day many of its sequences are parodied, and HAL9000 has secured his place in history. It formed space and spacecraft into a work of art, and made people fear technology for generations.
Incidentally, I have been trying to find most of the songs used in the soundtrack - I have Also Sprach Zarathustra, and An der Schönen blauen Donau - if anyone can tell me the names of some of the others, let me know, goddamn it.

Rated PG, I think.

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE

Based on the book by Anthony Burgess and directed by Stanley Kubrick, ACO is one of those legendary films you either love or hate, whether for its ultraviolence, bizarre direction, or strange remixes of classical music. Malcom McDowell as 'no last name' Alex is creepy, disgusting, and oddly likable all at the same time. It's a classic that has been parodied and referenced in popular culture over and over again, and was banned in several countries for its content.
Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It's tied with WALL-E for my Best Film Ever.
From the very memorable opening sequence to the strange ending, this film will have you hooked...if you can stand the obscenity.

Rated R in most countries.

BLADE RUNNER (1982)
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost in time, like tears...in rain. Time to die."
I saw this film in high school and I loved it.
Another film based on a novel by Philip K. Dick, this one being Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Blade Runner is another dystopian tale of technology and fear of technology. Its vast cities inspired many other films, most notably Star Wars, and its grim portrayal of the future came as a contrast to other sci-fi of the time. Many of my peers didn't like the film, they didn't 'get it'. My teacher (who is awesome) and I forged a friendship over this film, as I have mentioned in other posts...but that's irrelevant.
The characters are unlikeable and gritty. Except for Roy Batty and JF. Sebastian, who are awesome, badass and insane. Well, JF isn't badass.
The atmosphere is bleak and realistic. Although flying cars are in effect, this is acceptable, as almost every futuristic sci-fi film has them. I think the only ones I've seen that don't are WALL-E, Minority Report and Dune.

There's also a fuckton of symbolism, some subtle, some more overt.

Watch this movie. You will not regret it.

CLOVERFIELD (2008)

What can I say, this film was different, but good.

A lot of people said the party scene was boring and dragged on. Although it was a bit long, it provides great character development and really makes you feel sorry when the characters inevitably die.
Except for when that girl blows up. That was awesome.

I also loved how the film cut away to previous events, and with the manga providing some epic backstory (which isn't really needed to understand the movie, but might be revealed in the sequel), it really fleshes out the character of the creature.

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire feel of the piece. Some say the shaking camera causes nausea, but no-one in the cinema felt nauseous or had to leave to puke, so that's a good sign. There were several moments where you think the movie is over, only for someone to get up, pick up the camera and continue on, the situation becoming more and more hopeless for our hapless protagonists. The camera really gives a personal side to things. As Jenohart pointed out afterward, most monster movies just show the monster trashing things, but not the problems of the people in its way. It was great to only see things from an ordinary civilian's viewpoint. For most of the movie the monster is only glimpsed, but as the film progresses more and more of it is revealed, until, in the climax, it stares at the camera for a good 30 seconds before attacking.

Of course, we all expected the 'rocks fall, everybody dies' ending, [for the uninformed: not literally, it's just the name of a trope] but the way it got there was amazing. The ending, though abrupt, is a good one, and although it doesn't wrap up any loose threads, what were you expecting?!

Unfortunately, there were a few drunk yobbos in the back who didn't 'get' the ending and started yapping on about how there was no credits music. Actually, there WAS, being the only soundtrack in the entire film, excluding the background music played during the party.

Also, stick around after the credits. A bit of backwards audio is played.

DONNIE DARKO (2002)
"Twenty-eight days... Six hours... Forty-two minutes... Twelve seconds... That is when the world will end."
This is one fucked up movie.
Just when you think you've got it all worked out, along comes another twist that will confuse you again.
And then you watch it again and realise everything was foreshadowed all along.
I watched the original cut for English class and it was really cool. The ending is extraordinary.
I can't really describe this film. It's surreal, it's fantastic, and it's one big mindfuck.

FULL METAL JACKET (1987)

God has a hard-on for Marines because we kill everything we see! He plays His games, we play ours! To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep Heaven packed with fresh souls! God was here before the Marine Corps! So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps! Do you ladies understand?"
I liked the first half of this movie, but after that it got really boring.
I particularly liked the characterisation of the legendary Sergeant Hartmann, who incidentally has been parodied a lot and even crossed over into real life drill training, and has been quoted in at least one song by every intrustrial band I listen to. I also liked Private Pyle.
Although I understand the political ramifications of this film, I felt it dragged on a lot.

This movie is also completely responsible for the introduction of the term 'hagane' ('fullmetal') into the Japanese language. It means 'stubborn'. Now you know why so many anime are called 'Full Metal _____'

Rated MA, I think.

"The mediator between Head and Hands...is the Heart!"
This is an awesome film directed by Fritz Lang (yes, the guy in the Fullmetal Alchemist movie...which is worth watching just for the reference to this film) in 1927, making it the oldest film I've ever seen. It also kicks the ass of a lot of modern films.
It was way ahead of its time, using amazing effects with MIRRORS and portraying a view of the future that hadn't been seen before.
It's also a silent film (meaning it's easy to translate, just change the captions) with amazing music and actors. You haven't seen awesome actors until you've seen the proles in this movie.
I swear Kraftwerk were inspired by this film. Not just in the music itself, but the titles. I mean, come on. The Man-Machine?

Incidentally, the 'metropolitan' signs indicating staircases into the metro in Paris seem to have been inspired by this film.

MINORITY REPORT (2002)
"It's like my daddy used to say. In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king."
A lot of people didn't like this film because Tom Cruise was in it. I've not seen many of his films, so I can't judge the movie on that standard.
This was another film we watched in English class at uni. I really liked it. I like dystopia, and I like science fiction, I like Philip K. Dick, who wrote the short story this film is loosely based on (also the novel for Blade Runner) and I like thinking films. This film has a lot of similarities to other texts: Oedipus Rex, Dune, Blade Runner, 1984, to name a few. I loved this film, although it's not among my favourites. Some will think it's 'weird', but it's much more comprehensible than Donnie Darko, for example. I didn't think much of the characters, because they take a backseat to the underlying themes of the film. The sci-fi isn't too over-the-top and many of its concepts are very plausible.

WALL-E (2008)
"AUTO, you are relieved of duty!"
-contains minor spoilers regarding the existence of robots other than WALL-E and EVE in the film, which you should know about already, but at the time of its release, it was very tight-lipped-
I can't get enough of this film. It's just...legendary. It's beautiful. It's art. It's everything a film should be, and what makes animated films so special. It has that Disney magic. Younger kids probably won't understand its lack of dialogue much and find its long sweeping shots boring and uneventful, but by god is this probably the best movie ever. From the opening sequence to the finale, this movie will give your eyes an orgasm and make your heart melt for every mindfucking second.

AUTO is one of the greatest villains I remember from a Disney film. He's no Chernobog: he has humble origins, but he exercises his power like Big Brother, although he has good intentions. He's a mix between HAL 9000 and GlaDOS, and his voice is fucking creepy. Everyone and their dog should watch this film, regardless of your opinion about animation or Disney.

Having never read the graphic novel but having heard amazing things about it, I at first thought the film would suck. Then I saw the trailer, and I knew this would be awesome. I am now trying to find the book, (again, I saw it on sale before the film was announced, but didn't buy it) but it's always taken in sci-fi club.
Well, what can I say about Watchmen that hasn't already been said? It kicks ass. It deconstructs the superhero genre. It deconstructs fucking everything. And the script is written by David Hayter.

If you're looking for an action film, this is not it. This is a vigilante's muse on the world with massive political undertones. It drags on. If you wanted to see an action film, you will be very disappointed. I didn't expect anything but awesomeness, and I got it.

Also, the sex scene goes for too long.

Bias in newspaper titles/Academy Awards controversy

There has been a lot of controversy lately about the Academy Awards and the recent rise of what journalists are labelling 'Holocaust films'. There has been debate over some films which were not nominated, and some which, apparently, did not deserve to be nominated. The truth is that often many of the films nominated at the Oscars are crap. It's more a popularity contest. I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire, but no matter how good it was, it did not deserve some eight nominations. Even in the UK I realised that the popularity of the film was majorly over-the-top.
I along with many others are dismayed that WALL-E, probably the best film of 2008, obtained the award for Best Animated Feature (of course) but was not nominated for Best Picture, but of course films made the year before are almost never put in the Oscars. Except for The Dark Knight, but that's because Heath Ledger died and the dead guy always wins something. I also have not seen Gran Torino, but there was supposedly bias there, too, in that it wasn't nominated, supposedly due to controversial subject matter.

As aforementioned, there has been controversy over 'Holocaust films', some of which are not even centring around the Holocaust but do centre around a character belonging to the National Socialist regime. I refer, of course, to The Reader and Valkyrie. There have been a lot of other 'Holocaust films' released recently though: the amazing Die Fälscher/The Counterfeiters, Boy in the Striped Pajamas...the list goes on. In the case of The Reader, there was controversy that the film (which is based on a book, but nobody is told that, [hell I didn't even know until I had to read it for university] and the author of the book was not criticised) that the film 'evokes sympathy' for the main character, who is a reformed KZ guard, and thus supposedly supports Holocaust denial and National Socialist beliefs. What the fuck? I find it very disconcerting that anyone who was alive during that time period, even if they were reformed, is somehow not allowed to have positive feelings directed towards them for fear of supporting the eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil regime.
When Valkyrie (which I have also not seen) was first released over here, the subtitle on the weekly entertainment digest read 'TOM CRUISE COURTS CONTROVERSY IN VALKYRIE' (presumedly the fact that he wears a nazi uniform in the film and looks very nice doing it, despite the fact that his character was not a nazi supporter and, well, the whole film centres around his plot to assassinate Hitler.)
Upon reading the article, there was no controversy mentioned. SURPRISE
OH, but there was a funny quote or two from the interviewees, Tom Cruise and some other guy.

"In school we had a little nazi club..." Of course, the children were too young to know what a nazi was, let alone what they did. They just thought it looked cool. "One day I came home with my own little swastika armband coloured in crayon, and my Jewish mother berated me over the stove...I never made that mistake again"

ROYALE WITH CHEESE plus sodding buses

Although my holiday is now officially over and I'm back in Ausfailia, I stil have many posts still to make.

First off, I saw one of the Christian buses. (Two actually, one right behind the other. Weird how I actually saw more of them in thirty seconds than the atheist buses over the entire trip.) It actually managed to offend me. 'The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God'? 'There is definitely a God, so stop worrying'? Doesn't that count as hate speech? They're calling us fools! That's like saying 'all atheists are stupid and deluded because they fail to believe in our ripoff of over 9000 religions and stories which are so ancient most haven't heard of them because we wiped them all out lawl. Mithras? Gilgamesh? What's that? Sounds like a Lord of the Rings ripoff.' I raged quietly. Aegis/Blastcage said The Times is a much better newspaper, so I read it and was confronted by a bunch of Christians complaining that they're the most discriminated against group in the nation...wait what? On the way into France we also passed through British customs, and there was a Turk and his wife who had been pulled aside for 'random' checking. The officer who was at the head of our line was taking a long time to scrutinise an Arabian passport, maybe he thought it was fake because it was Arabic? My cousin said she even got stopped tonnes of times when she was tanned, but gets stopped like never now she's whiter. Also we saw this poor Tibetan monk in a wheelchair going into Australia. He was having a hard time at customs because, well, he couldn't get out of his chair so they had to search him while he was still in it. We later saw him declaring some stuff. I felt sorry for him.

FRANCE WAS AWESOME. We visited Musee D'Orsay, the Louvre (Mona Lisa is so overrated. I didn't want to see it, but there's much more awesome stuff) and various other tourist spots. Tonnes of people wore fur and ushankas - even saw one with the Soviet coat of arms on it. I squee'd. I think there must be quite the Russian minority in France. There was a lot of Cyrillic graffiti around. However, there were a fuckton of poor homeless people (one had a puppy) Unlike the poor homeless people in London however, these remain mostly quiet and sit on the side of the road with a small sign saying to please give money for something, I don't really speak French. A few I didn't even notice until I almost ran into them, they sat so still and blended in with their shawls and etc. There were also buskers on the Metro (the Parisian underground train), which are awesome. If you see a fat Italian dude with an accordion singing in Spanish, give him a couple euro on my behalf.
Homeless people in London are massively sad. They're hired to sell the newspaper The Big Issue, which like nobody buys, so they're sitting on the side of the road wearing rags and stereotypical hobo clothes, waving newspapers around saying 'could someone pleeeeeeeeeeeeease buy The Big Issue?' in some slurred half-drunk voice.

One of the main things we planned to do was go to McDonalds in France and order a Royale with Cheese, a la Pulp Fiction. However the other food in France was so über (or should I say 'magnifique') we ended up only looking at the menu, which was posted outside. We didn't get a photo although I did find one on the net. (click for full size) Yep, not only is there a Royale with Cheese, but also a Royale Deluxe and Royale with Bacon! And look, they have beer there too. AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT NO PAPER CUP. I MEAN LIKE A GLASS OF BEER.

Speaking of good food, there's a chain of cafés in the UK (also a few in the US) called Pret A Manger. They have the fucking best food ever. You must have their potato chips. They make Kettle look like a pile of shite. There's a patisserie in Paris called La Genovese which makes the best chocolate muffins.

So yeah, France was great. THERE WERE SOLDIERS EVERYWHERE
Like at all the major tourist spots there are some commandos wandering around with huge fucking machineguns. My mum didn't take a picture because she reckoned she wouldn't be allowed and the camera might be confiscated or something. >_>;
Then we went to the Arc De Triomphe, which was fucking huge, and there must have been some parade or something going on there because there were more soldiers and veterans down underneath there with flags and stuff. Incidentally, on one of the double-decker buses in London we drove past a military barracks and the bus was just high enough for us to see over the large wall and into it. Pretty funny. There were some soldiers there chatting to an officer.

I was dancing about on a table doing my best A Clockwork Orange impression and had shitloads of fun. Also my cousin took a picture of me holding up a glass of water (I had an evil face for some reason) and it looked exactly like the opening shot from that movie. My mum deleted it though. :/

In London we went to Harrods. It's fancy and disgusting, although there was a lovely opera singer performing there. The Egyptian imagery and hieroglyphs are reminiscent of WAFI (more on that later) but they clearly did not do the research (unlike WAFI). Come on, Isis with a snake's tail? A whole bunch of circled hieroglyphs (representing the names of pharoahs)? The obviously did it just because it looks cool.

More bus woes & Big Brother

We actually hit the rush hour on the way back home via the Tube. It was freaky, since we were essentially a ton of proles being herded through tight tunnels, Metropolis-style, while the CCTV cameras looked on - a number of them, from the view we were coming in, appeared like HAL9000's eye.

Also, thelondonpaper, that miserable stack of propaganda, is hoeing out anti-atheism again. So the Christians got offended by the atheist bus campaign and have shelled out money for an ad campaign which says 'There is definitely a God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.' This has been funded by three sects, the Russian Orthodoxes, the Catholics and I think the Baptists.

So, it's fine to completely confirm Christianity, but the merest sliver of an iota of assumption that there may be a chance of a god not existing (once again, the word 'probably' had to be added to the atheist bus campaign in order to be allowed) is slandered? They had to add 'probably', but it's okay to say that there 'definitely' is a god? And wouldn't the existence of a god be more worrying than the lack of one? thelondonpaper said that the atheist bus campaign 'offended believers' but the first line of its article said 'God works in mysterious ways, and he may use the buses to prove it'. So the very papers are run by fundies. Great.

OFF TO PARIS TOMORROW

I actually saw one of the atheist buses a few days ago. And I mean one. There really weren't many of them used, which is interesting considering the HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS

I also saw George Orwell's house. Kickass. Also went to the antique market and they were selling gasmasks. My mum asked me why I would want one. :/

Anyway, we were watching The 51st State/Formula 51 and there's a few scenes where the protagonists are fighting neo-Nazis. My mum said something about 'fucking skinheads, they're all white supremists (sic)' I replied 'Mum, not all skinheads are racists'. But of course she was like 'NO, that's what they're like darling'. Fuck. I've long stopped bothering to correct her countless mistakes, but it's just stupid now. She's also of the belief that children in Germany aren't taught about the Holocaust and that they believe it was justified, what the fuck?

Anyway, saying that all skinheads are white supremacists is like saying that all metalheads are Satanists. With some differences. Although a long time ago many skinheads were indeed 'white nationalists' (neo-Nazis will never call themselves racists or neo-Nazis. They'll always say 'white nationalists' or 'National Socialists') especially after the war, there were, even then a large proportion of the skin culture opposed to them. 'Skin' has nothing to do with political leanings, it's a whole culture, much like, say, goth. It has a style of dress, which you'd probably know of, and usually skins listen to punk or rock. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I feel sorry for the 'real' skinheads, because the racists give the rest of them a bad name.

There was a poll on MSNBC the other day along the lines of 'Should Wikipedia ban users from edited or creating pages?' What? That's the entire point of a wiki!

Holiday Update

I'm posting now from the house I'm staying in in London for a quick update. The Emirates were fantastic, and I hope to make a detailed post soon. I was also thinking of starting up another blog for holiday posts, but this will do for now.

Regarding London, first impressions were terrible. The airport staff were unfriendly and glum. The airport itself wasn't flash, and was really quite drab. We flew over on Emirates so we had a brilliant flight, though. However, apart from the bobbies at the airport, most people are actually quite nice in this country. The architecture is fantastic, and although the weather is quite cold, you'll be fine wearing a few extra layers of clothing and covering up. We visited good old Doc Martens, and there was an actual, real life British skinhead in there. I feel kinda sorry for the genuine skinheads because they have to put up with the stupid neo-Nazis giving them a bad name. This guy was pretty cool until he opened his mouth, after which he seemed a bit drunk. Might have just been the Cockney accent though. He talked to the shopkeep for a bit before vanishing just as quickly as he had arrived. Really weird.

I kinda have to post regarding the PC and CCTV everyone talks about in this country. It's true that CCTV is everywhere. There are notices around, especially on the Underground, about reporting suspicious activity, the police are watching to make the city a better place, bla bla. Cameras are quite sinister, especially since many of them in the Underground, and Overground, as well as a few rooftops, loudspeakers and etc. are covered in barbed wire for some reason. I originally figured it was to stop folks pulling them down, but I really have no idea now.

Two days in the UK and I'm already talking like one! :/

Well, at least they aren't calling it 'propaganda' anymore.

Update on the atheist buses campaign. Yep, it's been banned.

I was going to type out the whole article from the newspaper until I discovered the entire thing had been plagiarised from The Telegraph, without credit given. So here's the link.

Okay, I still wonder why these are "offensive and broach standards on taste and decency". They even had to put in the word 'probably' to pass guidelines! Why is it that flat-out proselytising is allowed, but the mere suggestion of secularism is enough to be considered a hate crime?

He said: "If you're going to put out what appears to be a factual statement then you have to be able to back it up. They've got to substantiate this proposition that in all probability, God doesn't exist."

There is plenty of goddamn proof to explain things that religion did before. There's no need to PROVE the existence of something that there's no evidence for the existence of. Stupid religious nuts are always going to argue for existence even though it can never be proven, and never be completely disproven. I thought Britain was pretty fine with atheism, but it appears not.

Members of the public donated £140,000 to the Atheist Bus Campaign after its founder, the writer Ariane Sherine, suggested there should be an antidote to religious posters on public transport that "threaten eternal damnation" to non-believers.
Some supporters of the movement, which has now paid for 800 bendy-buses across Britain to carry the posters for a month as well as placing 1,000 adverts on Tube trains, had wanted a stronger slogan that denied God's existence categorically. But the word "probably" was included in order to meet ASA rules.

See, these people supported it, but now they're trying to ban it because a few people complained.
Apparently hundreds of religious groups complained in the US, which is sorta understandable. We're never going to get equal rights, ever.

Firstly, someone on /v/ said that it's mainly because vidya are interactive, in which case we should ban drama classes.

Chapter 5-Winter of Yukio Mishima's "The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea" describes a more violent act than I've ever seen in a vidya game. And I was fucked up beyond belief after reading it back then (young kid, and my parents made me read literature).
Classic literature and school curriculum books are more violent than most video games, but as kids we are forced to read them. Ironically, if we were to write anything vaguely similar, no matter how good it was, we would have been sent to the counseling office and suspended.

Radio discussion said that a group (Australian Sex Party, lawl) was going to file for discrimination if the bill went through. More discussion was - why are women's breasts considered more offensive than men's? Everyone was against it. Last night I attended a cousin's 21st birthday party. Since the air-conditioning in the hall was freezing (we were booked for a public hall) we went outside for a while, where it was much warmer and most of the adults were hanging around smoking. This girl saunters over to us from the street with shittily-streaked hair all messy and shit, tonnes of makeup and scantily-clad. Clearly a druggie.

One letter to the editor (I really don't need to stress the idiocy of the letters to the editor in our newspapers again, so I'll try not to do that too much) said something about them boycotting a holiday to Broome and cancelling an order of pearls for her daughter from Broome because they're a sister city with Taiji in Japan who is apparently conducting a secret dolphin-killing cult and holy shit look at these graphic pictures on the front page of the newspaper doesn't it disturb you Japan is evil

Abortion is already legal in this country. A petition has been put forward to the UN to make abortion a fundamental human privelege for all people. And a move has been made in Victoria to make partial-birth abortions - killing a child during childbirth - legal.
There has been a push to legalise abortion in this state, considering 80% of the population supposedly supports it. But this is completely contradictory to the previous census which stated the facts that 80% of the population pledges alleigance to one of the five great religions which forbids killing people.
There is an increasingly militant atheism which wants to ban religion from all aspects of society. It makes you wonder what, after thousands of years of Judeao-(sic)Christian teachings of 'you shall not kill' and 'honour your parents and authority', they plan to replace it with.
At Christmas we celebrate the greatest gift of God when His son came down to live among us and afterwards taught 'whatever you do to the most insignificant of my children you do to me', recognising that God acknowledges all people. It is far better a creed to live by than the patholically fascist atheism which refuses to acknowledge the sanctity of all human life.

Not all of us are like that, however. Back before I went militant I was a utilitarian secular humanist. That basically means 'love everyone, take the course of action which brings the most good to the most amount of people'. I still didn't believe in religion, but I still believed in helping people. This period only lasted a while before I became sick of everyone and became a misanthrope. I guess you could say I snapped. But that's off topic.

The "winter solstice" sign sponsored by the atheistic Freedom from Religion Foundation calls religion "myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

An organizer at Sunday's rally, Steve Wilson, said outrage over the display was growing, and that it was offensive to people of all faiths.

"When it comes to disparaging my faith on public property, that's where I draw the line," Wilson said.

Three counterprotesters stood at the side of the rally, holding up signs that said, "Get Over It."

The sign went up Dec. 1 in the Capitol rotunda, alongside a "holiday" tree and a Nativity scene.

It generated national debate after TV talk-show host Bill O'Reilly made it an issue on his program.

Gov. Chris Gregoire's office reported receiving hundreds of calls, mostly to protest the state's decision to allow the sign to be displayed.

Gregoire and Attorney General Rob McKenna have defended the atheists' right under the law to display their sign in the Capitol.

The state began granting broader access to religious displays a few years back, after a Jewish group added a Hanukkah menorah to the long-standing display of a massive evergreen Christmas tree -- these days called a "holiday tree" -- sponsored by the Association of Washington Business.

Organizers pleaded with Sunday's crowd to keep messages positive, but there were still signs portraying Gregoire as a Grinch. Even scheduled speakers took political pot shots.

"You have led the state of Washington to be the armpit of America. And I'm afraid that our governor is the one adding the offensive odor to the armpit," said the Rev. Ken Hutcherson, a Christian preacher known in the region for his commentary on social issues.

Also on hand was a manger scene made from balloons.

The wise men were missing, but the scene included an image of O'Reilly slugging Gregoire.

The atheist sign was briefly stolen Friday but was returned to the Capitol after somebody dropped it off at a Seattle radio station.

It was restored to its display site, along with the added message, "Thou shalt not steal."

Because the mangers are intended to symbolize the peacefulness or what-the-fuck-ever of Jesus and Christmas and have no intent to offend. The atheist signs are just trolling and exist for no other reason but to piss off Christians.
