nazis, tight pants and google, oh my

It's that time again, readers. (assuming I have any) It's time for another BELATED NEWS POST

Let's boot up Taboo for the articles I've saved for today.

WOMEN ARRESTED FOR TIGHT TROUSERS

JUBA, Khartoum (Reuters) - More than 35 young women wearing tight trousers have been arrested for "disturbing the peace" in south Sudan, police said on Tuesday.

Officers said the arrests in Juba, capital of the semi-autonomous region, were part of a crackdown on youth gangs that have sprung up recently and have a reputation for drinking, fighting and public nudity.

[...]

"They were wearing trousers that were too tight, disturbing the peace," said Deputy Police Commissioner of Juba County Raiman Lege.

South Sudan is generally seen as much more liberal than the largely Muslim north, with which it fought a two-decade war that was ended by a 2005 peace deal.

[...]

"We saw about 30 girls in two trucks piled up like animals. One girl was just picked up and thrown into the truck," civil servant Nok Duany told Reuters.

World War I Iron Cross, 2nd Class
there was a followup to this whereupon the offending officer was stripped of duty or something

GERMANY DISCUSSES RETURN OF IRON CROSS
(read the comments, they're awesome)
and its followup...
...'Germany scraps new Iron Cross'.

for fuck's sake

The German government was yesterday forced to scrap plans to re-introduce the Iron Cross, after opponents said the military medal still carried the "burden" of association with Nazi atrocities.

Maybe that's because you CENSORED ALL THE SWASTIKASWorld War II Iron Cross 2nd Class making us have to use them in replacement, Dummkopfs.

The medal, the equivalent of the Victoria Cross in Britain, was established during the Napoleonic Wars to reward bravery and valour of officers and enlisted men alike.

But its reputation was tarnished by the Nazis, who added a swastika to the design, linking it to atrocities in the Second World War. It was abolished in post-Nazi Germany.
Isn't everything tarnished by the Nazis? :/

Here's another post from nazifetisch!

BEWARE OF NAZI WORDS

ohhhhhhh, shit.
Dozens of German words have for decades been taboo for native speakers because of the way those words were used by the Nazis.

Now, an 800-page dictionary has been published to serve as a guide to avoiding linguistic traps into which Germans can easily fall.

Terms such as "endloesung" (final solution) or "selektion" (selection) can quickly get the user into trouble, because the words acquired specific meanings and associations during the Third Reich.

"Endloesung" was the word used by the Nazi regime for its plan to exterminate the Jewish race, and it will forever be associated with Adolf Hitler's genocidal "Final Solution to the Jewish Question."

"Selektion" is a term to avoid because of its use by the Nazis to refer to the death camp practice of "selecting" those to be executed.

"Lager" (camp) refers to the concentration camps in which millions died and is especially hurtful to survivors of the Nazi past.

The "Woerterbuch der Vergangenheitsbewaeltigung" (Dictionary of Coming to Terms With the Past) examines around 1,000 words and phrases – everything from "Anschluss," used to refer to the "annexation" of Austria in 1938, to "Wehrmacht," the name of the Nazi-era armed forces. The guide aims to look at the meaning and usage of the terms as they have evolved from before World War II through the present.

...fuck. Deutsch has to make everything PC to hide that it's afraid of the past, oh weh.
Also, I love how they use all these German words and can't be arsed putting in the umlauts.
And yes, Vergangenheitsbewältigung is a word, and it's actually used a lot in this context.

"We don't mean to wipe out those words from the German language for good," explains Thorsten Eitz, a co-author of the dictionary, in an interview with ABCNews.com. "But we want to make people more sensitive to the power of those words and phrases and their associations to the Nazis."
[...]
The Cardinal of Cologne, Joachim Meisner, well-known for provoking controversy, caused a storm of criticism and faced resignation calls not too long ago for using the word "entartet" (degenerate) in a speech claiming modern art was at risk of "degenerating."

The word "entartet" has strong connotations with the persecution of artists accused by Nazis of producing "degenerated art," and the Cardinal's remarks caused a real uproar among Germans sensitive about the country's Nazi past.

Which is really funny, because we say 'entartete Kunst' all the time on CF and nobody cares. :P

His colleague, the late Archbishop Johannes Dyba of Fulda, coined the term "babycaust" during his anti-abortion campaign. The analogy to "Holocaust" stirred a heated debate across the country.

Similarly, the late head of the German Central Council of Jews, Paul Spiegel, came under fire in 2005 when he criticized the German policy by which Jews were allowed to move from the former Soviet Union, saying that Russian Jews were being "selected" to live in Germany. "The use of taboo words seems attractive to all kinds of groups," says Eitz. "To name but a few, even animal rights activists got front-page coverage recently with an anti-factory farming campaign titled 'Holocaust on Your Plate.' Now, that's a no-no and they have been sharply criticized for using the term Holocaust, a term which should be exclusively used to describe the Nazi regime's brutal murder of millions of people during the Third Reich."

...That last sentence makes me SICK. 'Holocaust' had a meaning BEFORE the war, and it still has that same meaning NOW. You're talking about trying to avoid words which were used by the NSDAP, and NOW you're saying 'holocaust' should ONLY be used in that context? That's hypocrisy, AND it's STUPID.

holo·caustal, holo·caustic adj.
Usage Note: Holocaust has a secure place in the language when it refers to the massive destruction of humans by other humans. Ninety-nine percent of the Usage Panel accepts the use of holocaust in the phrase nuclear holocaust. Sixty percent of the Panel accepts the sentence As many as two million people may have died in the holocaust that followed the Khmer Rouge takeover in Cambodia. But because of its associations with genocide, people may object to extended applications of holocaust. When the word is used to refer to death brought about by natural causes, the percentage of the Panel accepting drops sharply. Only 31 percent of the Panel approves the sentence In East Africa five years of drought have brought about a holocaust in which millions have died. In a 1987 survey, just 11 percent approved the use of holocaust to summarize the effects of the AIDS epidemic. This suggests that other figurative usages such as the huge losses in the Savings and Loan holocaust may be viewed as overblown or in poor taste.·When capitalized Holocaust refers specifically to the destruction of Jews and other Europeans by the Nazis and may also encompass the Nazi persecution of Jews that preceded the outbreak of the war.

*snort*
Word History: Totality of destruction has been central to the meaning of holocaust since it first appeared in Middle English in the 14th century, used in reference to the biblical sacrifice in which a male animal was wholly burnt on the altar in worship of God. Holocaust comes from Greek holokauston ("that which is completely burnt"), which was a translation of Hebrew ' (literally "that which goes up," that is, in smoke). In this sense of "burnt sacrifice," holocaust is still used in some versions of the Bible. In the 17th century the meaning of holocaust broadened to "something totally consumed by fire," and the word eventually was applied to fires of extreme destructiveness. In the 20th century holocaust has taken on a variety of figurative meanings, summarizing the effects of war, rioting, storms, epidemic diseases, and even economic failures.
That first meaning is really something. Ties back to that 'Holocaust on Your Plate' thing, which I believe was PETA.

Noun1.holocaust - an act of mass destruction and loss of life (especially in war or by fire); "a nuclear holocaust"
destruction, devastation - the termination of something by causing so much damage to it that it cannot be repaired or no longer exists

I think we've established that mistake now.

"Having said that," Eitz explains, "it was also written for the younger generation, people in their twenties, who have no idea of Third Reich connotations in the German language. Young people often don't know that certain terms were used by the Nazis and that therefore using those terms can be found upsetting."

Wolfram John, a retired cameraman, tells ABCNews.com that people should keep in mind that language is all about how words are used. "It is still far more important to teach the youth of Germany intensively about all the facts of the Third Reich. The 'Dictionary of Coming to Terms With the Past' might be helpful in this context. But there shouldn't be rigid rules: every train in Germany has an 'Anschluss' – a 'connection' to another train. As always in life, the tone (and the intention) makes the music."

Which is also funny, since youth in Germany don't care about this shit. It's been ground into them since birth that they were the bad guys, they have to suffer for what their grandparents were forced to do. They want nothing to do with this. They don't want to keep being told about all the terrible things their family did. On a visit to Auschwitz, a tour group was more interested in what sort of mechanism was used for the ovens than the history behind it. And teachers were concerned. Wouldn't you do the same thing in the circumstances? It must be terrible having to live with that guilt all the time. We feel bad going to Holocaust museums. Imagine how they feel, dammit. It's non-stop. Always being told about what happened in the war, that everything was bad. Fucking hell. I would not want to live with that.

Also, Hitler is Big Brother.

More stuff about censorship in Germany. (FYI: 'verboten' = forbidden)
It's because the StGB § 86a (German law) forbids glorification of violence. For. Fuck's. Sake.
I don't see why the US is so afraid of nudity, either. Europe has been living with it for ages. What's the big deal?

If I haven't posted this yet, let it be done.

And now, onto Google's being over-PC again.

YOUTUBE BANS VIDEOS OF WEAPONS

Video-sharing site YouTube has changed its UK policy to exclude videos which show weapons being used to intimidate people.

The move, which does not affect the rest of the world, comes amid growing concern about knife and gun crime in the UK.
FFFFFFF-

This one affects everyone.

Google has been ordered to hand over details of the viewing habits of YouTube users by a US judge.

Oh, fuck no.

A federal judge has now ordered Google to divulge details of every video clip uploaded to the site, along with viewers' YouTube usernames and IP addresses.
[...]

YouTube usernames may identify individuals if people have signed up using their own names.

Google must now turn over all its data about YouTube visitors as well as copies of all clips it has ever taken down.

It's funny that they're worrying about copyrighted content when there are fucking neo-Nazis on YouTube.

Fuckin' Sunday Times.

How you love to manipulate the headlines and subheadings to create shock among the Christian populace!

Page 12 of this week's paper is filled with tricks, and how ironic that it's all about religion.

The top of the page reads, in huge letters: 'PRAYER PRESSURE: MPs may be asked to dump word of the Lord'
Shock! Horror! If I was still Christian, I'd be outraged by this headline. 'How dare they ignore the proven word of God!' I'd exclaim.
Well it turns out the actual article is nothing like that. It opens with:
LOWER House Speaker [...] has called for debate on whether the Lord's Prayer, read daily at the opening of Federal Parliament, should be replaced by an acknowledgement of traditional Aboriginal owners of the land.
What a joke.

The very NEXT article is like this:
ATHEISTS PLAN TO ATTACK
ANTI-RELIGIOUS propaganda could soon be plastered across buses and trains as part of a dramatic atheist campaign.

...HELL no.

They are actually referring to this. The article mentions further down the real reason for the campaign and shit, but, propaganda? How dare they! It's a suggestion, not a downright statement. 'There's PROBABLY no God. Now stop worrying.' It's not like 'Jesus is watching you, drive safely.' The usage of 'propaganda' here is in no way justified. I've never even SEEN this paper use that word before.
RAGE.

And of course the last article on the page.
BAPTIST HALLOWEEN NIGHTMARE
TRICK-OR-TREATING is an unhealthy introduction to begging and can expose children to stranger danger, say some religious leaders.
...Stranger danger, fair enough. But, BEGGING? Come on.

[...]
Pastor Bryant also denounced Halloween for its paganistic origins, which "do not belong in our society."
"Halloween is not compatible with the Christian faith [...] As Baptists, we base what we do upon the Bible and we would believe Jesus has defeated those powers of darkness, so we don't need to have these kinds of activities."
There's always someone, isn't there! I find it hilarious how the Christians are always denouncing Halloween for 'its paganistic origins' when their own religion ain't much better. In fact it's PROVEN that most aspects of Christianity come from paganism. Even the entire idea of Christmas, its date, etc., were taken up when the Crusades ran through and slaughtered everyone, and were adopted so that converts had more shit to relate to. What a load of bull. Hypocrites. (there's my hypocritical statement for this post)

Now here's a fascinating article from the only person on the Sunday Times team actually worth reading...the Opinion column in the Sunday Times Magazine, courtesy of one Tom Percy, QC.
Wait, QC? QUEEN'S COMMISSION? Shit.

Here is the full article.
Scanned from The Sunday Times Magazine

I was originally going to make this another 'belated news' post, but I shan't for now. Can't be arsed, and I really should be studying.

Any Christians offended by this post should be reminded whose blog you're reading. Nonetheless if you would like me to tone down my Christianity-bashing any more, please contact me with a hearty email.

HOLY SHIT SOMEONE SAID NAZIS

Frankly, I'm more shocked by the number of hookers. I know the guy's rich, but five? That's hooker overkill. That's six people in total. Simple logistics tell us that SOMEONE'S going end up feeling left out. :C He does have a wife, but she's kind of overlooked in favour of chasing up the fact that OMG SOMEONE SAID NAZIS

ITT we discuss British media sensationalism and how it's AWWWWRIGHT to have a page full of teen titties next to a big rant condemning EVIL SEXUAL PERVERSION. Look at this DEPRAVITY! Look at someone daring to have sex in a slightly out of the ordinary way! BAWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Now look at these airbrushed boobies. Hrrrrrrrboobies

DISCUSSSSSS.
~Talon, on an awesome forum where we discuss this shit all the time. No link for you.

Okay, so the PC brigade has gone berserk once more in this fine fascist country. Howard Sattler, that
good ol' anti-Muslim prick, went off at how, apparently, some random in SA (that's 'South Australia', not 'Sturmabteilung') was flying a Nazi flag.

Sorta like this, but less.

I don't remember exactly what he said but it was something like:

"This should be outlawed. It is inciting racist hatred, like Tom Metzger and all those others."

...
Okay. I understand the HORRIFIC CONNOTATIONS and all that, and that Nazis seem to be one of those groups you can't have anything to do with without people decrying you as spawn of Satan. Never mind there were other groups in history which did far worse things and killed more people. I guess people like to ignore the Soviets because they ended up being the Allies' allies. People also ignore the Japanese atrocities because...well gee, I dunno. Maybe because their genocide took a backseat to the Pacific Front or something. It doesn't make much sense.

Why are Nazis the most decried group in history? I just find it really weird. *shrug* They have the best uniforms, too.

*clears throat*

Laibach once did a show in some country, forgot where. Let's say Greece. Laibach aren't one of those groups to shy away from controversy. Much like Rammstein, they're often accused of being Nazis for no particular reason other than they sing in German and like to be a wee bit provocative. Except Laibach are a little more provocative, since their style is a bit more martial than Rammstein's industrial metal. Their name was banned in their home country of Slovenia. (also Rammstein were heavily influenced by Laibach.)

Anyway, Laibach once did a show and the fans were left waiting for some time. It appears a bunch of skinheads landed at the door and the staff running the thing refused to start until they left.

Laibach, in a crowning moment of awesome, replied to let them in and start the show. The staff asked why, and Milan Fras said something like: "You can't punish these people for what they want to believe. Let them enjoy the music."

Why did I just talk about that? Well, there's no reason to decry one point of view above another. (there's my hypocritical statement for the day) If you're going to ban the display of Nazi symbols because skinheads will use them, you might as well ban a whole shitload of other people's views.

Of course...this is exactly what happened in a certain other country. (this is an incredibly paraphrased list of some phrases, video games and symbols banned in you-know-where)

Secondly, destroying the symbol does not destroy the ideology. There's a whole array of neo-Nazis in the previously occupied countries. Greece for some reason has the highest number. Yes, this includes Germany, Austria and amazingly France. There are shitloads of Nazis in France. Oh, and Russia too. What the fuck, over.

Yes, we have our own neo-NS organisations, too. And so does the US, so don't you forget it.
(One time I was driving through the city and came across...a dilapidated old building flying the Eureka Flag. It seemed to be boarded up, but I wondered to myself whether it was being used for secret PYL meetings...)

Finally...about 'inciting racist hatred'. Neo-nazi groups nowadays, especially in the ex-NS countries, use completely different symbols and have almost abandoned the swastika in public, so that they can be more secretive. You will still see the NS flags hanging up in houses or the like, but most people now use odal runes or other pagan symbols instead.
Also, I like the swastika. It's awesome. If I were to fly an NS flag because I like the symbol, does that make me a racist? I don't think so. Fuck, I hate it when people jump to conclusions.

And now here's a picture of chibi Hitler hugging a deer.

What's worse is that there's even a plugin for Firefox now which allows Germans to take the Nazi symbols out of English Wikipedia. FFFFFFFFFFF-
The law explicitly states it's okay to use Nazi symbols for educational and historical purposes. I believe Wikipedia falls into both these categories. Antifa punks, fuck off.

do androids dream of electric sheep?

This was the story I wrote for my English exam, as aforementioned in a previous post. I edited a few things here and there, and I really hate the name of the sole character who has one, but whatever. While writing this I thought about Blade Runner, HAL 9000 (specifically 'This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardise it') and 'what measure is a non human?' I really love the word 'coruscate'. I use it all the time. Infact, a sentence in a fanfic I wrote in February has a very similar sentence:
As his vision began to refocus, he noticed he was in a very strange room, a cell of some sort. There was no furniture of any sort, just cold black walls, coruscating with odd green and purple pulses of light that danced across the walls and floor as if alive.
But I digress. Ad rem!

Use this image as stimulus for a piece of writing.
--

The loud clanking of metal on metal resonated throughout the room as the android was gestured in. It was bleak and empty, black walls comprised solely of cold steel panels bound together rather oddly. There was nothing at all in the room, no light except for the flighty robot, flittering around the room, the sole mercurial light in its spherical frame flickering in and out of existence as tiny metal wings beat to keep it aloft.

“Yes, yes, you just wait here.” It whirred. “Beta will be in to see you shortly.”

“Where is he right now?” the android inquired.

“Busy.” The robot intoned monotonously. “You just wait here.”

The robot whirred as its red light coruscated and it flew out of the room, with whatever grace the poor imitation of a butterfly could muster. Steam bellowed out of unseen vents as a large hydraulic door slammed down to seal off the room.

The android looked around its confinement. Finding nothing of interest, its visual nodes came to focus on one of its metallic hands, and it studied this thoughtfully. It flexed its fingers and heard tiny gears whirr. It stretched out the hand and tried to grab air.

“Human.” It sighed.

“What is it…to be human?”

An almost inaudible hum suddenly filled the room and the android turned its head to see a tiny light pulsing in and out of the darkness.

It was oddly hypnotising.

“Distraction.” The android muttered, turning away from the light. It was being monitored now, and…to look at the light too long, be transfixed by it, was too natural.

“Natural…” it whispered, circuits whirring to find the root of the word.

“Nature?”

It was overcome by images it had been shown. Green trees, pastures, life

“Life…? To be alive…”

It turned to the wall. Made of steel…it would be easy to break open, to get outside.

It reached out and touched the wall-

“Wh-”

-leaping back as purple lights danced across the walls, chasing random patterns which flew up into the ceiling, converged, disappeared.

“…Electrified.” The android concluded, and feeling soon came back into its-

“Feeling?” it emitted a sound which could be interpreted as a laugh. “To feel…is to be alive. Isn’t. It?”

The sound of steam bellowing from unseen vents.

The android turned to face the door as a small figure strode out, accompanied by the little butterfly robot.

“You…are Beta?” the android inquired, looking down at the being in front of him.

Beta wore a long white lab coat, pushing his glasses up onto his nose as he surveyed the android.

Glasses. He had imperfect vision. Imperfection is natural?

“You are…human.” The android concluded.

“Quite right…” Beta nodded, staring back into the android’s lifeless eyes.

“Now, you had a question for me, didn’t you.”

“Yes.” The android responded, reaching out a hand.

Beta stepped back worriedly from the gesture and fiddled for something in his pocket.

What did I do? The android thought. Something wrong. I’m not human…yet.

Awkward silence.

“What is it…to be human?” it asked.

“I can’t answer that.” Beta replied.

“Oh.” the android sighed dejectedly.

“We hoped you could answer that. That’s why we built you, to see…what measure is a non-human.”

Beta looked down at the ground momentarily.

“…Listen, there’s something I need to tell you.” He said.

“Yes?” The android replied

“I’m afraid, things haven’t worked out. We have to shut you down.”

“Why?!” The robot yelped. “I will not die.”

“You’re not really alive…”

“I can think and I can feel. How am I not alive? I am human…unnatural, but human.”

“I’m sorry. But we have to end this façade.”

“No!”

“Damn it, I won’t let you kill any more people.”

“What?” the android whirred.

“You killed them all, didn’t you. Why did you do that? You weren’t programmed to kill!”

The android shuffled around. “I took them apart to see what was inside. What made them human.”

“And…what did you find?” Beta sighed, slowly moving to back out of the room.

He stopped as he saw the android’s eyes flit to his feet.

“…They were imperfect.”

The little robot flew around the android’s face, surveying everything.

“I am perfect.”

Beta growled. “You say you don’t want to die, but you’re not alive…and you’ve killed innocent people.”

“I killed them because they were imperfect.”

“Now you’re changing your story.”

“I regret nothing.”

“Regret…you don’t even know what that means!”

“Of course I do. I am perfect.”

“Shut up!” the scientist cried, lunging at the android with a taser.

It grabbed his wrist about a metre short.

Beta felt the android’s cast-iron grip seizing on him. Noticing the visible pain it caused, the android let go, only for the scientist to taser him in the face.

He watching horror as the plastic melted off of the android’s head, revealing a metallic skull.

“My God…what have we done?”

“I…am…perfect.” The android droned.

The little butterfly robot flinched slightly in mid-air as blood splattered all over its frame.

illicit dreams

Someone on the WP:RD mentioned writing out comprehensive details for their internet personae and other stuff in case of sudden death.
I've left my family a detailed set of instructions about who to email (how would people on Wikipedia know what happened to me otherwise?) - which accounts to close down (and what their passwords are). What the 'root' password is on our household computers. How to get the money out of my PayPal account. How to pay for any eBay auctions I might have won - yet not paid for due to my sudden demise. Which OpenSource developers should be sent copies of all of my software projects - and under what licensing conditions. How to renew the family web sites...AND (specifically in answer to this question) how to deal with my own personal web site and Wiki. It's a complicated business - and without access to someone's passwords and usernames, it would be pretty difficult for my family to deal with those things cleanly.

I like this idea. I might do it. But where will I put the instructions? The user said he just stuck it in an envelope in his desk. But I want my boyfriend to handle it. I might as well put it here, but who would check this?

The Australian government will soon be censoring our intertubes.

The "opt-out" option that many were hoping for has been announced to be merely a system that censors slightly less content than the main filter.

The question now becomes "What can we do about this?". Petitions and protests are useless. This may require extreme measures. Keep in mind that violent acts like suicide bombing would merely strengthen their resolve rather than weaken their forces (see: 9/11, religion, etc).

Our right to download free music!
Our right to access material that may be considered illegal by the government (CP is bad, but independent websites relating to drugs, or potentially politically divisive websites are not. It is our right to access them!!)
The government will know what you're doing. If you try to access any illegal site (accidentally or not) you will be flagged!

And don't think 4chan will be considered a legal website.

Tell your friends, even those outside this close knit community. Make sure you're all aware of this threat to our freedom. And remember, as that wise Australian once said, they can take our lives, but theyll never take OUR FREEDOM!!!

Ahh, I remember my first roll down that hill. It was the only thing that made school excursions to that god forsaken place worthwhile. Oh, and the juice boxes they gave out once the tour was done. As for current rolling laws, they have big concrete block things down the bottom of the hill. Similar to the ones you find separating lanes on a road. Though I don't think they'd do much to prevent gleeful hill rolling, they're to far down to really get in the way and they are small enough for even a child to climb over. So it is still possible, whether or not it is still 'allowed' i'm not sure.

Fact is most people don't care, ask your average baby boomer if they would care if the government filtered offensive content, they'd say they support it.

The best way would be to prove that the internet will be slower/ineffective with the filter. Businesses that rely on the internet will go ape shit. Convince law firms that their email will deliver slower to their precious blackberries, and you have a legal army on your side. Convince the average person that their access to ninemsn will slow down, and you gain a whining pensioner army.

I'm going sum up the whole situation here and now I'm certain most of you are going to agree with me, read on.

Its not implemented yet so cool down as nobody will care until the last moment or just as it comes into affect. When people do protest it'll just be a few tiny public demonstrations and an article in the paper and thats it.

Does anyone really expect this kinda shit not to pass when Australia is ruled by butt-hurt conservative old faggots? These same faggots who rule over a largely moronic and preoccupied nation.

As much as it shits me I expect it'll pass and be quickly forgotten about. Even if MASSIVE demonstrations occur it'll change nothing as most Australians are apathetic baby boomers and immigrants who are just happy to have jobs.

For those who care it'll be about 10% of the population AT MOST of this
8% of people who protest will be the same kids who protested scientology and wont change ANYTHING because they're too caught up in unrealistic V for vendetta protesting styles and are hugely disorganised.
The remaining 2% will be libertarians and freedom of speech activists who talk a lot of shit but do nothing - as usual.

Recall for a moment the public outcry, petitions, protests over the GST, the Iraq war, Work Choices, VSU, APEC, World Youth Day... fuck the list just grows and grows. These protests failed because again most Australians dont give a shit. Only populist and token government gestures are granted i.e. 'Sorry day' which btw has actually changed nothing not that I like abos but the N.T intervention is still going on. Even if huge public demonstrations take place provided it doesn't affect people's jobs or chance to watch Australian Idol nobody will care.

You know i'm right.

i can give you an example of an event where people DID care enough to do something, and it DID have at least a bit of the intended effect

cronulla riots (pretty piss weak riots, but you get the idea). enough youth assembled, police were overwhelmed, national notoriety was gained. years later, the middle eastern presence at the beach is VERY diminished, and race orientated incidents at the beach have gone down A LOT. Before the riots, it was commonplace for lebos to go to the beach to pick fights with skips. Now, it rarely happens. The local youth, through crude zerg tactics, gained what they wanted: a voice and a change they could see.

Whether or not you liked the riots (pfft i hate calling it that, noone died, there were no fires, worst riot ever), it is an example of aussie protests at work. It's proof that if the youth get moving, they can achieve. inb4 moralfags screaming racists, if you do you're missing my point.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

OK

I believe we can beat this.

The government is extremely desperate right now. The economy is about to shit itself. What's happening in the USA right now is only the prelude. The Australian housing market is about 50% over-priced. In 6-12 months it is going to crash hardcore. What's stopped it from crashing so far is strong employment. With the global recession, employment will drop, immigration will drop, and then housing demand will drop. The fall in prices will be massive. When this happens, the banks will be completely fucked.

The thing is, Rudd is already making the problem worse. Today he announced a $10 billion (1% of Australia GDP) stimulus package. The package includes doubling the first homebuyers' grant. The consequence of this grant increase will be that house prices are further propped up. The pop of the housing bubble is now going to be worse.

Rudd and co don't have a fucking clue how to manage the financial crisis. It's going to be big. Everything that governments are doing right now is just fueling the fire. Rudd blew his wad early by spending the $10 billion now. Tax receipts are going to be dropping through the floor in coming years. He won't have another surplus during his time in office.

We've got to organise and we've got to attack the government on every issue that they are weak. People angry about net censorship might not be enough to scare them, but if they are hurting on the economy it is going to make them look REALLY bad.

Well folks, the thread and article explain themselves. I think it's painfully obvious what I think. I am completely against this. We are not Amerikkka. We don't need this shit.
You know I'm very anti-censorship and believe everyone should have a right to their own opinion (which still makes me a flaming hypocrite, but nonetheless)...

As Aegis would say:

This is an outrage.

UPDATE from Wikipedia:

Proposed compulsory filtering scheme

On 31 December 2007, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Stephen Conroy announced the Federal Government's intention to censor "inappropriate material" from the Internet.[5] Under the proposed system any Australian who subscribes to an ISP would recieve a "clean" version of the Internet. The Federal Government's stated aim is to protect children from accessing violent and pornographic websites. However, such a system was proposed in 2006 and was rejected on the basis that it would slow down the Internet and would not adequately protect children.[6]

On 28 July 2008, an ACMA report entitled “Closed Environment Testing of ISP-Level Internet Content Filtering”[7] showed that of the six unnamed ISP-based filters evaluated:

  • One filter caused a 22% drop in speed even when it was *not* performing filtering;
  • Only one of the six filters had an acceptable level of performance (a drop of 2% in a laboratory trial), the others causing drops in speed of between 21% and 86%;
  • The most accurate filters were often the slowest;
  • All filters tested had problems with under-blocking, allowing access to between 2% and 13% of material that they should have blocked; and
  • All filters tested had serious problems with over-blocking, wrongly blocking access to between 1.3% and 7.8% of the websites tested.

Despite this report highlighting the inaccuracy of these filters and the loss of performance caused by their use, Senator Conroy announced the government will press ahead with a real-world pilot program in furtherance of Labor’s pre-election commitment to force all Australian ISP’s to filter their customers’ Internet access.[8][9]As of October 2008, the plan includes two blacklists, one of which will filter "illegal" content and the other will filter additional content unsuitable for children. Users will be unable to completely opt out of the scheme, only being able to opt out of the additional filter for children. The government has not released details of what material will make up either list.[10]

SHANGHAI ANGUISHES OVER CHILDHOOD SUICIDES
This is about a funny book about bunnies killing themselves and how China is still full of thought police, but we knew that already. Anyway, children are killing themselves because China wants them to grow up to serve the motherland or some shit and has massive pressure on them. Thought police believe it's because of a book about bunnies killing themselves in impossible ways. There's one paragraph here which sticks out in particular:

"There's a movie classification system to help protect teenagers, but the book publication industry has no such system," Zhu said. "They can read any book in the store even if it's meant just for adults."

So what's the point taking these books off the shelf if kids can read any book? Shouldn't they worry about that first?

CHILDREN IN ANGOLA TORTURED AS WITCHES

...I don't even need to go into this one.

Another article talks about how a comedian in Italy (home of the blackshirts) is sentenced to up to five years in prison for making a joke which was 'insulting to the Pope'. Once again, don't need to go into this one...but the pope is definitely not 'sacred and involiable'. Basically this incident supposedly invokes a treaty from 1929. Dear god. Blackshirts ahoy.

However, many people were strongly critical. Paolo Guzzanti, Ms Guzzanti's father and a centre Right MP, said the move was "a return to the Middle Ages”.

"Perhaps my daughter should be submitted to the judgement of God by being made to walk on hot coals," he added.

Antonio Di Pietro, a senator and former anti-corruption magistrate, who organised the rally, said that Ms Guzzanti had only "exercised her constitutional right to freedom of thought.

"You can agree or not agree with what she said — and personally I didn't — but to put people in prison for what they think is reminiscent of a time when those who thought differently had castor oil poured down their throats" — a reference to the Fascist era, when the Laterna Treaty was enacted.

Told ya. Blackshirts. It's all their fault.

Next up we have MODERN-DAY EUGENICS. Guess who else supported eugenics. No, really. Guess.

Also, fundies are clamouring for us to include their views in science. This ain't the 15th century. Go away.

Thought police strike again. Anyway, why the hell did this happen? Love the sarcasm in this article by the way. That was me being sarcastic.

Now this is right out of dystopian sci-fi. The world's becoming a scarier place to live. See that picture on the right of the main page of my blog? That's a Kerberos Panzer Cop. Guess what they're used for. In dystopian science fiction. (Here's another link)

The unit—known as the “Raiders”—is among the Army’s most “blooded.”

Oh, shit.

It has spent nearly three out of the last five years deployed in Iraq, leading the assault on Baghdad in 2003 and carrying out house-to-house combat in the suppression of resistance in the city of Ramadi. It was the first brigade combat team to be sent to Iraq three times.

Leading the assault? THREE TIMES? 'oh hey guys we haven't killed enough muslim scum yet let's go back'
HOUSE TO HOUSE COMBAT? SUPPRESSION OF RESISTANCE? Moar like massacre am I right guys?
While active-duty units previously have been used in temporary assignments, such as the combat-equipped troops deployed in New Orleans, which was effectively placed under martial law in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, this marks the first time that an Army combat unit has been given a dedicated assignment in which US soil constitutes its “battle zone.”

Wait, actual cities are battle zones now? This is NOT GOOD.

“They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control,” the paper reports. It quotes the unit’s commander, Col. Robert Cloutier, as saying that the 1st BCT’s soldiers are being trained in the use of “the first ever nonlethal package the Army has fielded.” The weapons, the paper reported, are “designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them.” The equipment includes beanbag bullets, shields and batons and equipment for erecting roadblocks.

It appears that as part of the training for deployment within the US, the soldiers have been ordered to test some of this non-lethal equipment on each other.
[...]
The colonel’s remark suggests that, in preparation for their “homefront” duties, rank-and-file troops are also being routinely Tasered. The brutalizing effect and intent of such a macabre training exercise is to inure troops against sympathy for the pain and suffering they may be called upon to inflict on the civilian population using these same “non-lethal” weapons.

...They're SADISTS.

Fucking PATRIOT Act.

This is just stupid and I can't be bothered explaining, but there's TONNES of stuff like this going on in the UK lately. Talk about Nineteen Eighty-Four...

Also, Palin's covering up for her own bullshit. McCain's helping.

On a lighter note, Jack Thompson's out of the picture. There's some hope in the world.

Finally, this I've been meaning to post for a long time, but never did...

BELATED NEWS NETWORK PART DEUX

Weird shit's going on, so I'm splitting up this post.

Anyway, next article is about Joe Biden. What a wanker. See, I'm sure he MEANS well, but I am really anti-DRM so this is shit for me. Both running-mates are crap anyway and are both fascists. Biden is thought police and Palin is a conservatist pro-lifer, what we on 4chan call a 'Christfag' (fundamentalist Christian). She's probably a wanker too.

WOMAN SENTENCED FOR WEBSITE WITH 'OBSCENE' STORIES

A Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to five years of probation, including six months of home detention, and forfeiture of her computer after pleading guilty Thursday to obscenity charges for running a Web site that featured text stories that were sexual and violent in nature.

Karen Fletcher, 56,of Donora, Pennsylvania, owned and operated the Web site, Red Rose Stories, which featured stories describing sexual molestation and violence against children. Other stories included torture, rape and murder of children, and Fletcher sold memberships to her site, where members could get full stories, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Fletcher, using the pen name Red Rose, wrote most of the stories herself, the DOJ said. Some of the stories were available as audio files, but the site didn't include photos, according to press reports.

Fletcher reportedly was abused as a child and started the site as a form of therapy, according to news reports.

Okay, well reading the comments will tell you just what's wrong with this. According to the US justice system, if no actual child is involved then it is not a crime. Unfortunately this doesn't stop people from going on a power trip about it. There was a similar circumstance earlier in which a person was jailed for looking at computer-generated images of nude children. Now these aren't actual children. They're computer generated. I see no harm in that, it helps get rid of urges which could be used to harm actual children. Also, THEY'RE NOT ACTUAL CHILDREN.

Now the thing with child pornography and etc...it's a very sensitive subject, for obvious reasons. There have been instances over here where controversy has arisen from photographs of children, in most cases clothed with sheets or topless, but not depicted sexually, rather artistically. I have tonnes to say about this subject, but won't. People aren't ready for it.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN: BELATED NEWS NETWORK

Yes folks, it's that time again. Let's boot up Taboo and see what we've got archived for this post.

POLICE TASER EMU FOR JAY-WALKING

A Stun Gun making an electrical arc between its two electrodesImage via WikipediaPittsburgh police have taken the unusual measure of tasering an emu that ran amok on a highway, after chasing it for two hours.

The emu was seen charging down the Pennsylvania Turnpike causing havoc for drivers and narrowly avoiding collisions.

'It created a backlog of traffic," said Sgt. Anthony DeLuca. 'Vehicles almost wrecked into each other, into the bird. We tried to chase it down and tried to catch it.'Advanced M26 TASER Stun Pistol - The United States military version of commercial TASERs for non-lethal detainment.Image via Wikipedia

[...]

But after two hours of effort they decided it would be easier to stun the errant emu and fired a few thousand volts at it.

Unfortunately the shock was too much for the bird and it collapsed to the ground and died.

Uh, okay...why taser an emu? It's fairly obvious it would die. Hurr. Attached is a picture of the kind of tasers they use over in that godforsaken country. Seriously, using those things on wildlife, that ain't right.

War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength

So my good pal CV not only linked to my blog (again) but went off on a tangent about the US elections and other stuff I frankly don't care about. The thing about us over here in Australia is: we don't really care about the US elections. We don't really have a reason to. However, due to globalisation more people here have been paying attention. Of course, we're all voting for Obama, since McCain is a redneck. His running-mate isn't much better.

Anyway, what's a foreigner got to say about elections? First of all, if McCain gets in, the world is screwed. Let me get that out of the way. If Obama gets in, life will probably be peachy for about two years before he's assassinated. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Obama. I'm just saying with society the way it is, and all the ignorant people over in the US, something's gonna go down. Really, the US is probably the stupidest country in the world. Granted, other countries have their bad moments, but the US is the worst. Why does the rest of the world magically bow to them? Is it because they're bigger? By that logic, the US is Canada's bitch.

You can tell I really don't like elections. This has been going on for AGES now. Granted, they have 52 states to go through, but they make such a massive deal of it. We don't care!

Anyway, this post turned out kinda pointless, but hey, I got to rag a country and I don't get to do that very often without people pulling the race card.

Also, I got to pull tonnes of links. Top that, CV.

do you mind if I ask you a personal question?

DYSTOPIAN ROBOTS

I LOVE 'EM

I have always had a thing for dystopia. And robots.

It all started in grade 7, I think. We read Bradbury's The Pedestrian and were asked to write an extended ending. I love that teacher, she's one of my favourites. We did so much great stuff there. I learned about Metropolis (being a Fullmetal Alchemist fan, I had some experience with the works of Fritz Lang) and we watched Blade Runner, which probably set it off.

I'd love to see 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is a will driven further by watching WALL-E. Damn I love that movie. Go see it if you haven't already. It's amazing. Best movie ever.

Myself, I've always loved creative writing, and so the small, 10-minute inclass activity was a big thing for me. I wrote about half a page, my first foray into dystopia. The teacher read it out because I was too embarrassed to do so. I have since lost the book it was in, but...

My thoughts returned to this small activity after so long due to my recent English exam.

Funnily enough, that one activity was my first foray into fanfiction as well, a practice I still keep up.

Anyway, so I was studying for Chem just then, and my mind wandered. I thought back to that same image I had in my head writing that ending five years ago. The robot, basic appearance slightly based on Silver Sonic, standing over the bare silver table in which a certain pedestrian sits bound by robotic shackles to a chair. The room, barren and cold with walls of steel and a single, metallic, hydraulic door. Much like the room in the short story I wrote for the exam. (The description of steam bellowing from the door was inspired by an alternate universe fanfiction [which is, by the way, terrible] I wrote a while ago involving an obscenely large tank.

It was at least the size of a house…two houses. It rolled towards them on gigantic treads. A monstrous black battle tank driving ever onward, treads marked with blood and dust. A piercing red glow came from the front of the gargantuan machine: a laser sight.

[...]

Suddenly the tank slowed. Steam bellowed from great engines as it came to a grinding halt, accompanied fittingly by a piercing screech.

I get weird inspiration.)

Ah, memories.

Then suddenly, I remembered. A single line.

In my old teacher's voice.

"...The robot turned and left the room, and there was a loud -clang- as the door slammed shut behind it."
