I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.
We just made history.
And I don't want you to forget how we did it.
You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.
I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.
We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next.
I was just going to make a thread on this. Seriously wtf? I live in Orange County so I just figured that all the yes on 8 signs were because I lived in a very conservative place and I was relying on the rest of California to make the right choice. (I did vote no still).

gays are annoying
on the other hand, they can't ruin marriage more than britney spears
I'm not really homophobic, and I'm not against gay's being able to have some sort of official union, but i just dont think marriage is the way to go. Think about it this way: marriage is and always has been based on religion. And pretty much all religions condemn gays.
Why would a gay couple want to go to a place where they aren't even tolerated to be married. I think there should be a sort of official union for gays similar to marriage, with all the same legal benefits, only the ceremony wont take place in a church.
Condemning homosexuality is part of the church's beliefs. The government cant force a church to go against their own beliefs. What ever happened to seperation of church and state?
>>2027911 I hate to spoil it for you, but marriage is completely meaningless without the state to verify it. You could get a hundred priests/ministers/rabbis/clerics/shrine maidens to marry you, but unless you fill those government documents, it's not worth shit.
It's been this way since the days of Rome. Churches only got involved in marriages when the state did, before that, it was actually an event where two different families would come together and celebrate.
>>2027911 This only makes sense if you're against atheists celebrating Christmas. Partnership ceremonies are called marriage, just like the winter solstice celebration is now called Christmas. These existed before Christianity / Judaism and will still exist long after they're gone
Marriage is a government/religious institution which has always always discriminated, objectified, or otherwise streamlined groups of people; be it men, women, children, non-believers, homosexuals, werewolves, vampires, sharks, and the like. It has never been equal or fair at any time in history, nor the final solution of expressing your love for another person.
The only legitimate reason to care about giving homosexuals the right to marry is tax breaks. Unfortunately money is not how most people saw the issue.
I think your perspective is valid, so I'm answering it with the truth.
Rights granted by marriage:
Right to visit your spouse on their death bed.
Right to have care of your children if your spouse dies (think about this: you and your partner adopt a baby. You do it in your partner's name, because, since you are not married, you cannot adopt the child together. Ten years later, your partner dies. Is that child, who you have raised for ten years, your child? No. Because you are not legally its parent.)
Right to be covered by your spouse's healthcare (depending on policy, obviously)
Rights to tax adjustment based on a shared income.
Many other rights concerning social security, medical issues, and divorce rights.
See anything about religion up there? We don't want to get married in a church, we want to have the rights that married couples have.

Did anybody catch during obamas acceptance speech. Instead of talking about doing all of the things that he said he would do, the key points he made is that he will try to do these things. Its funny how quick things can change after he's officialy president. Maybe this is what he meant by "change". What do you think?
Yeah I caught that lol, all that talk about hope, change and "Yes, we can". He's a good speaker, I gotta admit. I was swayed for a while. Thanks for following my blog!
Ok...Hes not making false promises now that he is elected. But during his campaign he never used the word "try". He always said with the utmost confidence that he "would" bring these changes. It seems like his speech is telling people not to expect much because the problems that we have are complicated and will take a long time to fix.
